Goodness of $5 Flowers

Hello readers,

I love flowers. I love smelling, looking, and taking photos of beautiful flowers. I’ve lost track of how many floral photos I’ve taken through the years. People often buy flowers for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, mother’s day, sickness, and even death. However, I don’t think many people buy flowers ‘just because’ for no reason at all. Well, to me it makes perfect sense to pick or buy a bunch of flowers to display in an ordinary room to lift the spirit. I’m not taking about over the top dozen of red roses. (For the record, I think red roses are overdone. Be a little more creative.) Instead, a simple bunch of flowers that otherwise would go unnoticed for special occasions. The best flowers are for no reason at all. I enjoy having a small $5 flower bunch on the table. It makes me smile every time I walk in the room. Don’t be afraid to finish your grocery shopping with picking out a beautiful bunch of flowers for just because. Simple flowers are truly a goodie. What flowers brighten your mood? Is there something you buy ‘just because’?

Instagram Love with Pancakes

Good Morning readers,

I’ve recently found a new love – Instagram. I know, I know Instagram isn’t really a new thing. However, to me it’s a new goodie that I’ve thankfully haven’t been too addicted to yet. I love taking photos, so it’s a fun way to simply share one photo that maybe the rest of the world thinks is great. It’s a thrill getting just a few ‘likes’ for a photo I’m proud of. On the flip side, I’m surprised when no one ‘likes’ my photo that surely seems awesome to me. Oh well. It’s just another social media source.

I’ve also gotten into eating healthier, so of course I turned to another social media, Pinterest, for ideas. Oh Pinterest how you tease, inspire, and wow me with ideas. There are common questions that probably go through a fellow ‘pinner’:  ‘Gee, why didn’t I think of that brilliant idea? Hmm, I wonder if it really turns out like that?’. This past weekend I made three Pinterest recipes, which all were a success. (I’ve also had disasters.) I decided to share my banana pancakes recipe with you.

This is where Instagram, Pinterest, and now WordPress all come together. I cooked these pancakes then immediately thought: ‘Hey, the rest of the world must surely see how delicious my breakfast looks’. I then thought: ‘Hey, I should share this on my blog’. How did people share information before all this social media? They probably used the ‘old fashioned’ social interaction – *gasp* the landline telephone, passing recipe cards in person, or mailing a note.

I’m now going to share with you my banana pancakes. This was my third attempt, so perhaps third times the charm. The recipe is very basic. This is for one serving.

1 medium ripe banana
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
optional: 1-2 tablespoons oatmeal for thickness

The first time I used a hand mixer, which worked fine but wasn’t so smooth. I now used a Vitamix or similar blender to get a smooth, blended batter. The oatmeal was a new addition, because I wanted to add more heartiness. I honestly think this is one serving with a large pancake or about three small pancakes. Another secret is that I prepared the batter the night before ready in the morning. The very best part – it doesn’t taste too much like banana! I topped my pancakes with berries, but you can jazz yours up with anything. I like that it’s so simple and good for you. Here is my Instagram photo of my banana pancake this morning:

Goodness to Share

Dear lovely reader,

Welcome! I’m excited to begin my new blog adventure with you. I had a previous blog for four years, but I think my life focus has changed about what I’d like to share with you. These past months I’ve strived to ‘better’ myself as a person. What exactly does it mean to ‘better’ yourself? We all desire to look and feel our best while presenting ourselves to the world. I plan to share elements that make me happy, which perhaps make you happy. So hopefully I make myself smile, guffaw, ponder, and imagine new possibilities while I share my life with you.

What may you find on this blog? I’m going to share numerous elements that make me smile. You may find recipes, personal photos, quotations, book reviews, life ‘ah ha’ moments, life adventures, and my personal writing. It may be a hodgepodge, but everything I share hopefully connects to feeling happy or how to become happy.

Who I am? Well, that’s a big question in a short sentence. I’ll give you a brief description of myself. I’m a thirty-something woman living in the Pacific Northwest. I’m currently molding young minds as an elementary school teacher. I’m neither married or have children, however I’m surrounded by children so I can provide wisdom from my teaching experience. My passions include reading, dancing, cooking new recipes, enjoying a walk, exploring my city and region, taking photos, and trying to make the best out of situations. Of course I have ‘flaws’ that may not always be flaws. I’m prone to worry and stress about little things, so perhaps as I share life elements that will lessen. I sometimes make myself guilty if I haven’t reached my goals for the day. I try and remind myself that tomorrow is a new day. Yes, tomorrow is always a new day.

So, welcome dear reader! May you become a fellow friend upon my life journey. That does sound a tad cheesy. Okay, perhaps not a dear friend but hopefully someone who enjoys reading random goodness to make your happy.
